A devastating tragedy has shaken the Greenwood community after a pregnant mother and her 3-year-old son were found dead in their home on Greenway Street. Family members have identified the victims as 33-year-old Ayerionna Clay—birth name Karon Karter—and her son, Carter. Clay was also expecting a baby boy, according to her sister.

Police responded to a welfare check at the home in the 600 block of Greenway Street near U.S. 31 and Smith Valley Road on the afternoon of August 4. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Clay and her young son inside. According to investigators, the bodies showed signs of decomposition, and the cause and manner of death remain undetermined at this time.
Originally from Indianapolis, Clay was a mother of five and was pregnant with her sixth child. She had recently moved to Greenwood in anticipation of her newest baby. Described by loved ones as warm, creative, and deeply devoted to her children, Clay was a well-known hairstylist and a graduate of Broad Ripple High School.
The horrifying discovery has prompted an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and clients who remember Clay not only for her talents but also for her infectious spirit and commitment to her family. Her sister shared that Clay had been eagerly preparing for the arrival of her baby boy.
Authorities have confirmed that the Johnson County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, and autopsies are scheduled to take place Tuesday to determine how the mother and child died. Until then, police say they are treating the incident as a homicide investigation.
Detectives are actively working the case, and while no suspects have been publicly identified, the deaths of Clay, her unborn child, and young Carter are being investigated as triple homicides.
