A 23-year-old Dublin, Ireland, resident has been identified as the suspect who charged and stabbed a Garda at a Dublin city center street on Tuesday evening.

Abdullah Khan, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, attacked a probationary member of the force who was on patrol with a colleague. The incident happened at approximately 6 pm on Capel Street on the north side of Dublin. Law enforcement say the officer was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was wrestled and detained at the scene. Abdullah Khan was charged for his involvement on Wednesday night. Official reports say he appeared before Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court, where he was charged for assault causing harm to an officer and possession of a Tactix knife capable of causing serious injury.

According to officials, Abdullah was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on August 6, pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The charges are under section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.
