UT Community Mourns the Loss of Jacob Villasenor, Spirited Coach and Teammate

The Scarborough community is reeling from the sudden and unexpected passing of Assistant Principal Jacob Brown, a deeply respected educator and administrator whose presence shaped the lives of countless students, staff, and families.

The news was shared Sunday by Superintendent Diane Nadeau in a heartfelt letter to families, where she described Brown as “a beloved member of our school community, whose care and commitment touched the lives of many.”

In light of this tragic loss, Scarborough High School has announced temporary adjustments to its schedule to allow space for students and staff to grieve, reflect, and access the support they need.

On Monday, the high school will suspend regular academic classes and vocational programming. Instead, the building will open its doors at 10 a.m. for those wishing to gather, find comfort among peers, and speak with trained counselors who will be on site throughout the day.

Principal Nathan Theriault emphasized that attendance will not be taken and no student will be penalized for choosing to remain at home. For those who do attend, buses will run on a two-hour delay in the morning and will provide return trips throughout the day, including the standard 2:25 p.m. dismissal.

After-school practices and games will go on as planned, though Theriault made clear that participation is entirely optional and no consequences will be applied to students who decide to sit out.

Counseling support will play a central role in the school’s response during the difficult week ahead. A team of professionals, including Scarborough staff and counselors from regional partners, will be available for both one-on-one and group sessions.

The school’s goal is to create a safe space for the entire community to process the loss of someone who was not only a leader but also a trusted mentor and friend.

Looking ahead, the district anticipates another two-hour delay on Tuesday, with plans to resume the academic schedule afterward. However, administrators have noted that flexibility will remain a priority, and additional resources and updates will be provided as the week unfolds.

The sudden passing of Jacob Brown has left students and staff grappling with grief. Many remember him as a steady presence in the hallways—someone who greeted students warmly, offered encouragement during challenging times, and supported teachers and families with compassion.

His dedication went beyond academics; he was invested in fostering a school culture of respect, inclusivity, and kindness. Superintendent Nadeau’s message underscored the depth of the loss: “Jacob Brown’s legacy will remain in the countless lives he touched and the positive impact he made in our community. His absence will be deeply felt.”

As the Scarborough High School family begins to mourn, plans for memorial arrangements are still being finalized and will be shared with the community once they are available. In the meantime, district officials encourage families to lean on one another, seek comfort in support services, and continue honoring Brown’s memory through acts of care and compassion.

Jacob Brown’s passing is a painful reminder of the fragility of life, but also of the enduring importance of community. While his loss leaves an empty space in Scarborough High School, his influence, warmth, and dedication will not be forgotten.
