Tracy Brown, a regional court prosecutor, was tragically shot and killed outside her home on Lotton Street, Young Park, in Gqeberha on July 31, 2025.
Reports indicate that Tracy was sitting in her car when a VW Polo pulled up. Four masked gunmen stepped out, approached her vehicle, and opened fire multiple times before fleeing the scene. Her partner and young child witnessed the horrific attack.
She was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Authorities have not yet made any arrests, but it is suspected that her killing may be connected to her recent work on high-profile corruption cases.
The loss of Tracy Brown has left family, colleagues, and the wider community devastated. Her brutal murder also highlights the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa.
How many more women must be lost before GBV and femicide are declared a National Disaster?
