Elizabeth Cardenas Figueroa Dies Following Eugene Car Crash

The University of Oregon community mourns the loss of 21-year-old Elizabeth Cardenas Figueroa, an international student from Mexico, who passed away earlier this week, ten days after being struck while cycling on Hilyard Avenue.

Cardenas Figueroa sustained severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and had been receiving extensive medical care. The Eugene Police Department confirmed the fatality and continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

The university expressed condolences to her family and offered support services for students and staff, including counseling through University Counseling Services and peer support via Duck Nest at University Health Services.

A crowdfunding effort established for her family has raised approximately $10,000 in donations. The university and local authorities continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Her passing is a profound loss to the University of Oregon community and all who knew her.
