Massachusetts Man Arrested After Allegedly Confessing to Murder of Pregnant Teen Ex-Girlfriend
Officials in Massachusetts say they have arrested the ex-boyfriend of an 18-year-old pregnant woman who went missing earlier this month, after he allegedly confessed to killing her and led detectives to her buried body.
The victim, **Kylee Monteiro**, a recent high school graduate who was 11 weeks pregnant, was last seen on **August 7** in the area of County Street in Rehoboth, according to police and her family.
Her former boyfriend, **Gregory Groom, 22**, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder following what prosecutors describe as a confession. He was arraigned on Wednesday in Taunton District Court.
Prosecutors said Groom initially contacted police on **August 8**, reporting that Monteiro had been at his house but left after an argument and had not been heard from since. After friends and family raised alarms, investigators began searching Groom’s 25-acre property.
According to prosecutors, Monteiro’s sister, **Faith Monteiro**, reported that Kylee had texted her on August 6, the night before she vanished, saying that Groom had “thrown \[her] on the ground, pulled \[her] hair, and strangled \[her].” In the same message, Kylee warned: *“My phone is at 4%. If I die, it was Greg.”*
Investigators said Groom later admitted to pushing Monteiro during an altercation, causing her to hit her head, and to knocking her phone from her hand. When police pressed him about her disappearance and informed him of a search warrant, Groom allegedly confessed to stabbing her multiple times with a kitchen knife and then burying her body in the woods behind his home.
Detectives recovered Monteiro’s body about 20 yards from a shed on Groom’s property, buried under five feet of soil and brush. The remains are now with the medical examiner for confirmation and autopsy.
Alongside the murder charge, Groom faces additional counts of assault and battery on a pregnant victim, assault and battery on a household member, and aggravated intimidation of a witness, juror, police, or court official.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn** said after the arraignment that it was “still too early” to determine a motive, but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. He added that he had spoken to Monteiro’s family, urging patience as they navigate their grief.
Groom has been ordered held without bail. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for **September 10**.
