Boyfriend of Pregnant Woman Found Buried in Rehoboth Charged with Murder
The boyfriend of a pregnant teenager whose remains were discovered in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, appeared in court Wednesday to face murder charges.
Gregory Groom, 22, is accused of killing **18-year-old Kylee Monteiro**, who was 11 weeks pregnant and reported missing earlier this month. Groom was arraigned in **Taunton District Court**, where prosecutors outlined multiple confessions he gave to investigators.
Authorities said Monteiro’s remains were recovered in a shallow grave on County Street, on the property where Groom lives with his grandparents.
Monteiro’s family described her as loving and caring, and shared that she expressed fear for her safety before she vanished.
* “She was so loving and so caring, and I love her so much. My daughter was her best friend,” said family friend **Kira Schofield**.
* “Knowing that I lost my sister, and I will never see her again or get the chance to say goodbye or tell her I love her,” added her sister **Faith Monteiro**.
Timeline of the Case
* Groom was the first to contact police, reporting Monteiro missing on **August 8**, claiming she had been at his home but left after an argument.
* Prosecutors revealed Groom later admitted to pushing her during an argument on **August 6**, causing her to fall and hit her head.
* He also confessed to taking her phone, which led to domestic assault and battery charges.
Investigators cited a chilling message Monteiro sent to her sister before her disappearance:
“He threw me on the ground, pulled my hair, and strangled me. My phone’s at 4 percent — if I die, it was Greg.”
Eventually, when police informed Groom they planned to search his property, he admitted to stabbing Monteiro multiple times with a kitchen knife and burying her body. Prosecutors said her remains were found about **20 yards from a shed** where the fight occurred, buried **five feet underground**.
Court Proceedings
Despite prosecutors describing his confession in court, a **not guilty plea** was entered on Groom’s behalf. He has been **ordered held without bail**.
His next court appearance is scheduled for **September 10**.
