St Catherine Murder Case: Bail Granted to One Accused, Co-Accused Remains in Custody
The St Catherine Parish Court on Friday granted bail to Nathan Williams, one of the two men charged in connection with the killing of St Catherine contractor, Humphrey Brown. Williams was offered bail in the sum of $1 million, while his co-accused, Leonard Swaby, continues to remain in custody as investigations proceed.
The case stems from the disappearance and tragic death of Humphrey Brown, a well-known contractor in the parish, who was reported missing earlier this year. Following days of search efforts, Brown’s body was later discovered in a shallow grave, sparking widespread outrage and calls for swift justice within the community.
Police investigations led to the arrest and subsequent charging of Williams and Swaby in relation to the murder. The circumstances surrounding Brown’s death remain under active review, as detectives continue to piece together the timeline of events and gather supporting evidence.
During Friday’s court proceedings, Williams was granted bail with strict conditions, including the requirement to report regularly to the police, surrender his travel documents, and refrain from contacting witnesses in the matter. Swaby, however, was not extended the same consideration and will remain in custody until further hearings.
The murder of Humphrey Brown has drawn significant attention across St Catherine, not only because of the brutal manner in which he was killed, but also due to the fact that his remains were deliberately concealed in a shallow grave. Residents have expressed both grief and anger, demanding accountability and swift resolution in the courts.
The matter is expected to return to court at a later date as the prosecution prepares its case. Meanwhile, Brown’s family continues to mourn the loss of their loved one while calling for justice to be served.
