tragic act of violence on the city’s southwest side has left a family mourning and a community shaken. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed that the male suspect wanted in connection with the killing of Rob Vidito has been taken into custody as of about an hour ago.
The fatal incident happened late Thursday morning, August 14, near Denison Street and West Troy Avenue, close to South Lynhurst Drive. According to investigators, Vidito, a resident of Indianapolis, was trying to stop a man and woman from stealing his vehicle.
Police say Vidito climbed onto the hood of the car in an attempt to stop the theft. The suspects could have driven away at that point—but instead, investigators allege, they made a deliberate decision to turn around and run over Vidito. The violence didn’t stop there. After hitting him, the suspects reportedly got out of the car and physically assaulted him.
When officers arrived around 11:10 a.m., they found Vidito critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The female suspect was apprehended within minutes of the incident. The male suspect fled but was captured by the IMPD Violence Reduction Team after an extensive search.
“This was not just a hit-and-run—it was an intentional and senseless act that took a man’s life,” an IMPD spokesperson said.
