DALLAS, GA — A large law enforcement and emergency response is underway in Paulding County following reports of a shooting at South Paulding Middle School during the school’s homecoming dance on Saturday night, October 4, 2025.

According to early reports, Paulding County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Paulding County Fire & Rescue, SWAT teams, and other emergency personnel, responded around 592 Nebo Road, Dallas, Georgia, after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire during the event.
The Paulding County School District confirmed that a lockdown was immediately ordered as officers worked to secure the building and safely evacuate students, staff, and chaperones.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injuries, but emergency medical units are on scene assisting those affected. The area surrounding the school has been cordoned off, and parents have been asked to avoid the scene until reunification procedures are announced.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as students ran from the building after the first shots were heard. “It was terrifying — everyone started screaming and trying to get out,” one student said.
As of late Saturday night, law enforcement remains on scene, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials have not confirmed whether a suspect has been taken into custody.
The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release additional details as soon as the situation is under control and families have been reunited with students.
Residents are urged to avoid the area and allow emergency crews to continue their work safely.
