Authorities are responding to reports of a shooting incident during South Carolina State University’s (SCSU) 2025 Homecoming celebrations on Saturday night, October 4.

According to early information, a large police and emergency response was called to the university campus in Orangeburg, where the annual homecoming festivities were taking place. Multiple law enforcement agencies — including campus police, Orangeburg Department of Public Safety, and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office — have converged on the scene.

As of late Saturday, officials have not confirmed the number of victims or the extent of injuries. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots near an area where students and alumni had gathered for post-game celebrations. Videos shared on social media show large crowds running for safety as police sirens filled the air.

South Carolina State University issued a brief statement on social media acknowledging that law enforcement was responding to an incident on or near campus, urging students and community members to avoid the area and shelter in place until further notice.

Emergency medical personnel are on standby, and parts of the campus have been placed under lockdown as police secure the area.

No suspects have been identified or taken into custody at this time. Authorities are asking anyone with information, photos, or videos from the scene to contact Orangeburg Public Safety or SCSU Campus Police immediately.
