Peter J. Doucet Obituary: Celebrating a Career of Dedication, Justice, and Service

It is with deep sadness and respect that we share the passing of Peter J. Doucet, a distinguished Ontario lawyer and cherished member of the Timmins community, who passed away in 2025. Renowned across the province for his sharp legal mind and unwavering dedication to justice, Peter’s career spanned nearly four decades—defined by tireless advocacy, integrity, and a profound commitment to helping others.

Called to the bar in 1986, Peter dedicated more than 35 years to serving clients from every walk of life, handling matters both simple and complex with equal focus and determination. Known as a “no excuses” lawyer, Peter embodied this philosophy in both work and life, often reminding others:

*“You can waste more time making excuses than it takes to just get it done.”*

Respected for his remarkable work ethic, Peter started early, worked late, and ensured every client received honesty, clarity, and time. Whether meeting in person, by phone, Skype, or Facetime, he was always accessible—offering straightforward explanations and practical solutions. His ability to cut through red tape and achieve results left an indelible mark on countless clients and colleagues.

To fellow lawyers, Peter was a formidable litigator. To his clients, he was a trusted advocate. To his family and friends, he was simply irreplaceable.

Though he practiced at all levels of court across Ontario, Peter remained deeply rooted in Timmins, where he built strong community ties and extended his services to those most in need. Beyond his professional accomplishments, his legacy shines in the lives he touched, the clients he supported, and the many young lawyers he guided with his passion and no-nonsense approach.

Peter is survived by his loving family, who are requesting privacy at this time. They extend heartfelt gratitude for the many messages of support and sympathy.

A memorial service will be announced in the days ahead. In keeping with Peter’s spirit, those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to do so through acts of kindness, contributions to legal aid initiatives, or by helping others with action rather than excuses.
