Sutter County Tragedy: Woman Killed, Passenger Critically Injured in Sedan and Semi-Truck Collision

A tragic crash in Sutter County on Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman and left her passenger critically injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The collision happened around 11:39 a.m. at the intersection of Obanion Road and South George Washington Boulevard. Investigators said a white Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Obanion Road while a white semi-truck hauling double dump trailers filled with dirt was heading southbound on South George Washington Boulevard at about 55 mph.

According to witness accounts, the Toyota failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection directly in the path of the semi-truck. The truck driver attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the collision. The semi struck the driver’s side of the Toyota, forcing the sedan into a nearby orchard at the southeast corner of the intersection.

CHP officials confirmed that the female driver of the Toyota died on impact. Her passenger, a 30-year-old man, sustained major injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle along with the driver. He was transported by Bi-County Ambulance to Adventist Health + Rideout Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The semi-truck driver was not injured and stayed at the scene to cooperate with investigators. Authorities said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash.

The intersection remained closed for more than two hours while crews worked to clear the scene and investigators documented evidence.

This incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
