One Woman Killed, Three Hurt in Sandusky Township Crash Involving Two Vehicles

A fatal crash on US 20 at the intersection of County Road 128 claimed the life of a 75-year-old Helena resident on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

According to the Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:35 p.m. A 2013 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by 74-year-old Elaine Reiter of Helena, entered the intersection after failing to yield at a stop sign. The vehicle was struck by a 2016 Ford Explorer traveling southeastbound on US 20, driven by 17-year-old Troy Borrelli of Avon Lake. The Explorer then went off the south side of the road and struck a guardrail.

Alfred Reiter, 75, the right-front passenger in the Chrysler, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Elaine Reiter was transported to Saint Vincent Mercy Hospital. Troy Borrelli and his passenger, 16-year-old Nathan Shivey of Avon Lake, were taken to Fremont Promedica Hospital with injuries.

The crash is under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors. Authorities on the scene included the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont Police Department, Sandusky County EMS, Sandusky Township Fire Department, and Pat and Son’s Towing.
