A 13-year-old boy has tragically died following injuries sustained in a crash earlier this week in Hodgeman County.
William Thompson, 13, of Hanston, passed away Friday from injuries he suffered in a Wednesday afternoon collision east of Jetmore. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of T Road and 231 Road.
The investigation revealed that a Kenworth semi-truck traveling westbound on T Road failed to yield at the intersection and collided with a southbound Dodge Dakota. The impact caused the Dodge to spin and come to rest facing south, while the semi-truck continued west before stopping.
William was a passenger in the Dodge. His 16-year-old brother, who was driving, and their 9-year-old sister were also hospitalized with serious injuries. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to support William’s siblings during their recovery.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of intersection safety and yielding right-of-way to prevent devastating accidents.
