UPDATE: Authorities are on-site in Charlestown following the discovery of a man who was found unresponsive this morning, reportedly after an assault in a shopping center car park.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead before emergency responders arrived at approximately 9:50 a.m.
Police say witnesses reported seeing another man fleeing south along the Pacific Highway shortly after the incident.
CHARLESTOWN, NSW — Police have launched an investigation following a stabbing incident at Charlestown Square on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 30 Pearson Street, Charlestown, officers from NSW Police responded to reports that a person had been stabbed in the chest. Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, and the injured individual received immediate medical attention.
Authorities have established a crime scene at the shopping center while detectives begin their inquiries. At this stage, police have not released details about the victim’s condition or whether any arrests have been made.
An officer is seen performing CPR on the victim, who is reportedly unresponsive. Shoppers and staff in the area reported a heavy police presence, with parts of Charlestown Square cordoned off as officers continued their investigation.
A part of the square mall is being evacuated as more responders arrive at the scene for investigation.
