The grandfather of an Ellsworth County woman accused of causing a fatal crash in rural Saline County and fleeing the scene was arrested Saturday night.
Saline County Jail records show 78-year-old Dennis Katzenmeier of Ellsworth was booked into the Salina jail at approximately 8:30 p.m. on a requested charge of obstructing apprehension or prosecution, a felony. He was released on bond about two hours later. Katzenmeier is the grandfather of 32-year-old Kayla Errebo, who resides in the Ellsworth County community of Lorraine.
Errebo was taken into custody Friday, August 8, following a head-on collision near the intersection of South Reese Road and K-140 Highway in Saline County. According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, at around 5:35 a.m., a Chevrolet truck traveling east on K-140 was struck head-on by Errebo’s westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The crash claimed the life of 55-year-old Deanna Sommerfeld of Brookville. Her husband, 61-year-old Mark Sommerfeld, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Errebo sustained minor injuries and initially fled the scene but was located at an Ellsworth residence and arrested around 8:26 a.m.
Errebo, who has at least two prior arrests for alleged driving while intoxicated in 2024, is not facing a DUI charge in connection with this crash. She faces multiple charges including:
A judge set Errebo’s bond at $1 million, and she remains in the Saline County Jail.
