Father Demands Justice After Daughter Killed in DUI Hit-and-Run

A family in Carson is grappling with grief and frustration following the death of 21-year-old Angelina Davis, who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the 110 Freeway in June. The alleged DUI driver involved in the fatal collision has since been released from jail, leaving Davis’ father, Anthony Mata, demanding answers.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), Davis was riding with her boyfriend when a speeding vehicle struck their car from behind near Torrance Boulevard, causing it to crash into a guardrail. The driver fled the scene shortly after the collision, which occurred around 11:35 a.m. on Father’s Day. Both Davis and her boyfriend were injured, with Davis succumbing to her injuries.

“I can’t accept it… it’s injustice,” Mata said tearfully. “If you cause an accident and leave the scene, it’s a felony. Yet the suspect is out, living his life, while my daughter is in an urn.” Mata expressed deep concern that the released suspect could leave the state or even flee to Tijuana before facing any charges.

The District Attorney’s office confirmed the case is under review, while CHP continues to investigate. Officer Bobby Eurin explained that the investigation is ongoing and that additional information from the coroner and accident reconstruction team is being collected before resubmitting the case to the DA.

Mata remembers his daughter fondly, recalling that she had recently celebrated her birthday and was planning a future with her boyfriend. “She was bringing him out to introduce him to us for a possible future marriage,” he said. The family continues to mourn her loss and hopes for justice to be served.
