Edgefield Shooting: Three Injured, Two Suspects Arrested After Hickory Street Incident

The Shenandoah University community is grieving the loss of Keyshawn Wilder, a standout former football player and current assistant coach, who passed away this week.

Wilder, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, was a junior in the School of Business pursuing his Bachelor of Business Administration. A graduate of Randallstown High School, Wilder joined Shenandoah in 2019 and quickly became a force on the football field. As a defensive back, he earned all-conference, all-state, and all-region honors in 2022 and 2023, and finished his collegiate career ranked second in program history for career interceptions.

In 2024, Wilder transitioned from player to coach, joining head coach Scott Yoder’s staff as the defensive backs coach, where he continued to inspire and mentor student-athletes. Known for his leadership, competitive spirit, and infectious energy, Wilder was a figure both respected and deeply loved by teammates, players, and fellow students.

Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons shared the news in a heartfelt statement:

“Keyshawn was someone who his teammates, players, and fellow students looked up to, and he was known as one of the hearts of Shenandoah’s football program. He brought joy to those around him, not just in classes and on the field, but also through his singing and dancing during team bus rides. Keyshawn’s spirit will certainly be missed.”

The university is offering grief counseling and support services for students, staff, and faculty affected by the loss. Cards and condolences for Wilder’s family and girlfriend can be sent via the Shenandoah University President’s Office at 1460 University Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.

Wilder’s legacy as both an athlete and a mentor will remain an enduring part of Shenandoah’s history. The school community remembers him not only for his accomplishments on the field, but for the warmth, laughter, and encouragement he shared with everyone around him.
