Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of 42-year-old Chrystal Thevis of Opelousas early Thursday morning.
Troop I reported that the incident occurred on U.S. Highway 167 near Flamingo Road shortly before 2:00 a.m. on August 14, 2025. According to investigators, a 2011 Toyota 4Runner was traveling south when it struck Thevis, who was walking in the roadway wearing dark-colored clothing.
Moments later, Thevis was hit by a second southbound vehicle that did not stop and has yet to be identified. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the 4Runner, who was properly restrained, was not injured. State Police said impairment is not suspected; the driver voluntarily submitted a breath test, which showed no alcohol in their system. A routine toxicology sample was taken from Thevis for further analysis.
