Single-Vehicle Accident in Burke County Leaves Two Dead

A tragic single-vehicle accident in Burke County on Wednesday evening resulted in the deaths of two individuals, authorities confirmed.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash on the 800 block of Hancock Landing Road at approximately 7:40 p.m. Officials reported that the vehicle, traveling south at a high rate of speed, failed to navigate a curve and veered off the road. The car collided with a culvert in the ditch along the west shoulder, flipped, and rolled multiple times before coming to a stop.

Both occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims have been identified as 49-year-old Russell Findley of Hephzibah and 31-year-old Gabriel Bobbitt of Ball Ground, Georgia.

Sheriff Alfonzo Williams expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who perished in this tragic incident.”

Authorities have not released additional details regarding possible contributing factors, such as weather, vehicle condition, or other circumstances. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crash and urges anyone with information to come forward to assist in the inquiry.

The accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of high-speed driving and the importance of exercising caution on rural roads. Burke County residents are mourning the loss of Findley and Bobbitt, whose lives were cut tragically short in this devastating event.
