Oswego Man, 32, Identified as Victim in Fatal Hopewell Crash

Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday morning in the Town of Hopewell as 32-year-old Benjamin Best of Oswego.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened shortly after 7 a.m. on August 13 along Route 5 & 20, near 3735 State Route 5 & 20. Deputies report that Best was the sole occupant of the vehicle when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

Emergency crews from Canandaigua Ambulance and the Hopewell Fire Department responded to the scene, but Best was tragically pronounced deceased upon discovery. The roadway was closed for several hours between Freshour Road and Mumby Road while authorities investigated the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Benjamin Best’s untimely passing has left his family, friends, and community in mourning. Those who knew him remember his presence, spirit, and the mark he left on their lives.

Further details, including funeral arrangements, will be shared once they are available.
