Police are searching for at least one suspect following a shooting in Markham on Thursday afternoon that left one person injured.
York Regional Police said officers were called to the area of 14th Avenue and McCowan Road just before 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.
When they arrived, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The extent of the person’s injuries has not yet been confirmed. Paramedics transported the victim to hospital, and their current condition is unknown.
Investigators say the suspect or suspects fled the scene before police arrived. No description has been released at this time.
Authorities have assured the public there is no immediate threat to safety, but have advised people to avoid the area as a large police presence remains while the investigation continues.
