It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of **London Powers**, a junior majoring in social work, on Monday, August 11, 2025. London was a bright, compassionate, and dedicated student whose presence brought warmth and inspiration to the North Carolina Central University community.
A proud native of Washington, D.C., London excelled academically and was a valued member of the University Honors Program. She aspired to earn a Master of Social Work degree, focusing on adolescent and mental health—an ambition that reflected her passion for serving vulnerable populations.
Her contributions on campus were many. Recently elected as event coordinator for the NCCU Social Work Society for the 2025–26 academic year, London worked to foster community among her peers. She was also preparing to begin an internship at the Durham Center for Senior Life, further demonstrating her commitment to service.
Friends, classmates, professors, and mentors remember London as vibrant, hardworking, and endlessly supportive—a student who gave her all to her cohort and the university.
During this difficult time, students and employees are encouraged to seek support.
