The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries on US Route 23 near Alma Omega Road in Ross County.

The crash occurred when 18-year-old Drezden Bolin-Hitchens of Waverly was driving southeast and reportedly crossed the center line, striking a 2016 Nissan head-on. The Nissan was being driven by Joseph Brandt, 18, of Columbus.

Bolin-Hitchens was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic.

Joseph Brandt sustained serious injuries and was transported by Huntington Township EMS to Adena Regional Medical Center. A passenger in the Nissan, 44-year-old Luis Granados-Soto of Blacklick, was also taken to the same hospital by Scioto Township EMS with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

As a result of the crash, both northbound and southbound lanes of US Route 23 were closed for approximately three hours while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators began their preliminary assessment.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Huntington Township Fire and EMS, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, and the Ross County Coroner’s Office.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
