Law enforcement says the teen accidentally shot himself with a homemade gun at a friend’s house. Police say they are looking into who owns the gun and if the weapon was registered. Kiki Utkovic was transported to Alfred Hospital, where he passed away several days later.
Kiki Utkovic and his friends, identified as Tom Dempsey, Levi Bloomfield, and Jesse Peart, are reportedly known names to police in Seaford, Victoria. The group was well-known for multiple crimes, including the kidnapping of Glen Eira student Benjamin Phikhohpoom outside his school in 2023.
Utkovic and his other teenage friends were involved in a prior kidnapping and assault incident. Emergency services were called to a home on Glen Alvie Street, Seaford, in Melbourne’s southeast, at about 4:30 pm on Sunday after reports that a gun had been fired.
The 16-year-old boy, who police believe accidentally shot himself whilst playing, was one of three wannabe gangsters who kidnapped and assaulted a Glen Eira schoolboy, leaving him with life-changing injuries back in 2023.
